The city council of Maastricht is responsible for framing and monitoring city policy. The Council Committee on Economic and Social Affairs has taken the initiative to invite a broad group of stakeholders to formulate the New Economic Vision Maastricht 2020 together. In a series of four interactive workshops the economic engines for the city are identified and explored.

It is the first time that the city council explores the economic vision together with a very broad group of stakeholders. The aim is to gather insight in the roles and responsibilities of all stakeholders in order to effectively develop a shared vision for a prosperous future.

Frans Bastiaens, chairman of the council committee for Social and Economic Affairs, took the initiave for the workshops: “I am convinced that the best vision and policies are shaped in dialogue with stakeholders.”

And with success: in February 2013 the full council – a rarity – endorsed the economic vision of the city for the next 15 years.

The serie of workshops was designed by Petra de Boer in co-creatie with council members and policy makers, and the results captured in visual reports (pdf, Dutch only):
