On the 28th and 29th of February 2020, Perspectivity conducted a Train-the-Trainer session for the instructors from National Institute of Design (NID), one of the leading design institutes in India. While Michiel flew from Netherlands on his maiden trip to India, Anubhav was present locally in Ahmedabad to support the training.

What started as an enquiry from the institute’s vendor in July 2019 culminated in a strong partnership with NID. The initiative to train the faculty members in the Perspectivity Challenges was the brainchild of Mr. Praveen Nahar (Director, NID Ahmedabad) who had heard about the challenge from an  acquaintance in Canada and then again from one of the attendees at an open game session conducted in Mumbai in 2018, another fantastic instance of worlds colliding!

T-t-T session taking place with Michiel Damoiseaux from Perspectivity

24 faculty staff members from Ahmedabad, Gandhinagar and Bangalore played and learned to facilitate Stress Nexus! Challenge, Public Health Challenge and Climate Challenge games. We opened the first day with Nexus! Challenge and Public Health Challenge to introduce the participants to a more difficult learning curve and then assimilate the learning by playing and facilitating the Climate Change Challenge. Owing to their various specializations ranging from strategic design, transport design, toy design, game design to systems design; each participant brought in a different viewpoint. And there were some tough questions posed to the facilitators as the participants could easily envisage what questions their students might ask them when the faculties would use the games in a classroom. The enthusiasm was outstanding!

The usage of the Perspectivity Challenges at NID will not be only limited to the classroom activities. Relating Systems Thinking and Design (RSD) is happening for the first time in India and NID Ahmedabad is hosting the conference in 2020. Perspectivity Challenges will be some of the tools the institute will showcase during the conference. The newly trained facilitators are the biggest group trained in India thus far and we hope that they spread the Perspectivity philosophy far and wide.
