A two day workshop with an online World Cafe like setting
Results:
- 70+ people gathered online over two days
- Valuable insights for RCF and Fund’s grantee partners, especially highlighting the unique added value and necessity of long-term flexible core funding to support inadequately served populations-led networks
There is a need to come together, especially in the face of current challenging global social and political contexts. Representatives of global and regional community-led and civil society networks, funded by the Robert Carr Fund, met online this November to strengthen cross-network exchange and learning. Participants discussed successes, challenges and innovative strategies of the current grant cycle 2022-2024 and generated key insights together. Marjolein Kok supported RCF with the development and facilitation of an online interactive workshop in a World Cafe setting.
RCF invests in global and regional community-led and civil society networks to sustain and expand the role of inadequately served populations (ISPs) in the HIV response. After the three year grant cycle, RCF wanted to reflect together with grantees on key successes, challenges, mitigation and innovative strategies, to strengthen collective learning and cross-network exchange.
A two day workshop was organised, where 70+ people gathered online over two days, accommodating communities from different timezones and continents. In an online World Cafe like setting RCF and network representatives discussed the value of the long-term flexible funding, increased decriminalisation of ISPs, mitigation strategies, working in partnerships, the need for a gender transformative and intersectionality approach.
Together with Thea L. Khoury and RCF Secretariat as well as other consultants Shona Schonning and Katya Burns, Marjolein guided the overal process facilitation to prepare and execute the workshop. Different case studies where shared by network partners that were carefully analysed to synthesise common threads and key topics for further discussion in the workshop. Meaningful participation and interaction, from a whole system and appreciative approach where central to the workshop design to generate rich conversations, collective insights and validate ideas with representatives of the community-led networks. A World Cafe set-up was chosen to stimulate interaction on different topics in diverse groups.
The workshop generated valuable insights for RCF and Fund’s grantee partners, especially highlighting the unique added value and necessity of long-term flexible core funding to support ISP-led networks in times of shrinking civic space and decriminalisation. Marjolein will continue to support RCF team to process key insights into a learning resource that will be shared with the RC’s donors and partners.
