In April 2013, a group of 20 people of 4 Burundian NGO’s participated in Perspectivity’s leadership training and strategy development workshop. These were the first activities of an institutional capacity building programme under the umbrella of Peace under Construction.
Interactive Leadership Training
During the 2-day leadership module, participants explored leadership in complex domains and in situations with a common interest. They reflected on their own role and responsibility and on their self-expression and their attitude and skills concerning appreciative understanding. The training was highly interactive and invited self-steering of participants, using creative and innovative methods and materials. The group also play the Perspectivity Game.
Strategy Development with Appreciative Inquiry
After the leadership training, the group engaged in a strategy development workshop. Instead of a traditional training on strategic planning, participants applied the theory directly to their own organisations. This way learning and applying are combined.
Through appreciative interviews with colleagues, members and other stakeholders, participants collected stories and explored organisational strengths and values as well as dreams for the future of their organisations. The findings will be used during the next workshop in October, for further design of their organisational strategy.
